From the RVTEC email list on Mar 5, 2026:
Hi Rvtec!

The R/V Armstrong currently has a freshwater cruise scheduled for 11/11/2026 – 11/25/2026 in Lake Superior and we were hoping there may be a freshwater modified SBE9+ available to rent/lease for that cruise.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Sonia,

Capt. Maxwell Morgan here from the Research Vessel Neeskay at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Science. I also worked as the head marine technician of the US EPA R/V Lake Guardian for 8 years.

Interesting to here you guys are making the trip all the way up to Superior! That will be quite the journey. May I ask what will be doing?

I am not 100% sure but I believe you could use the current SBE 9+ that you have for saltwater. Some of the sensors will need to be calibrated for freshwater or their calibration numbers changed to freshwater but to my knowledge there is no difference in SBE's.

The Lake Guardian does carry a back up SBE 9+ that they may be willing to loan to you. Here is the contact info for the marine tech there. mtechs-lg@cpcperforms.com

Happy to help in anyway I can!

Thank You,
Max
